Clarence F. Elmore, 85, a survivor of Pearl Harbor attack, lived here 20 years
Clarence Franklin Elmore, 85, of Jasper, formerly of North Vernon and Indianapolis, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home. Visitation is Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. A Pearl Harbor Survivors memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial with military honors conducted by VFW Post 2021 and the United States Army will be at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.
Mr. Elmore was a World War II Army veteran, serving from 1940 to 1944. He was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor and was assigned to Merrill's Marauders. He was employed at Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis for 30 years and retired in 1987. After retirement he and his wife moved to North Vernon, where they lived for over 20 years. He was a member of the UAW and the Pearl Harbor Survivors. He enjoyed the NBA, and his hobbies included gardening and playing pinochle.
Born June 7, 1922, in Edmonson County, Kentucky, he was the son of Elbert and Bessie Johnson Elmore.
He is survived by a son, Dan Elmore of Jasper; two daughters, Connie Cooper of Manhattan, Kan., and Barbara Thuer of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren, Kelly Nicholas, Amy Webster, Stephanie Kernan, Brian, Scott, and Michael Cooper; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mardella Renn, and his parents.
Memorials may be made to the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.
