Mrs. Alice Laura Campbell, 70, died at 3:05 a.m. today at her home, 2001 W. Main St., after a long illness.
She was born in Nelson County Aug. 31, 1892, a daughter of the late Franklin and Mary Margaret Carr Painter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie James Campbell, on Feb. 28, 1954.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin R. Campbell and Manley H. Campbell, both of Waynesboro; one daughter, Mrs. Norman (Rachel) Farris of Lynchburg; one sister, Mrs. Mattie Hopper of Buena Vista; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Etter Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Crumpacker of Lynchburg, assisted by the Rev. W. E. Cunningham. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
The active pallbearers will be Wade Baber, Warren Claytor, Otis Alford, Mack Fitzgerald, Albert James and Ward Alford.
The honorary pallbearers will be R. H. Merriam, Carlyle Cunningham, Frank Dooms, Benjamin Ward, Macon Bohon, Rankin Todd and Jack Truslow.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin R. Campbell, 2001 W. Main St.
