daughter of John Reed and Lettice Orr, on 31 January 1811 in Harpswell, Maine. He died
21 October 1826.
He was a private in Capt. David Johnson's Company, raised at Harpswell, Maine,

Erminie S. Reynolds and Kenneth R. Martin have detailed his life in The Skolfields And Their Ships
and report that:
Samuel owned, in part, with his brother Thomas, the schooner Return in
1807. He shipped as a seaman in the brig Harmony in 1809, bound for
Liverpool with his brother John as master. With his brother George he was
part owner of the brig Prospect, and with George he served as her mate on a
voyage to St. Baits in 1813. He was master of the schooner Levant, in parts
of 1817 and 1818 and until she was sold in 1819. He was first master and
managing owner of the schooner Mary, built by his brother George in 1819,
and was part owner of the schooner Reindeer, skippering it from December
1819 to March 1820. For part of 1821 and 1822, he was master of the
schooner Mary, built by his brother Thomas.
Between voyages, Samuel worked as a ship carpenter under Master
George Skolfield and helped build the brig Alciope in 1821. He delivered the
brig Kanluiwa to her owners in 1822. He was part of the builders and owners
of the brig Orion in 1823, worked on the sloop Penobscot in 1824, and was a
ship carpenter, part owner, and first master of the schooners Volant and
