Gertrude O. Marks, 75, died Thursday, July 15th [1999] at the home of her daughter, in rural Maple Hill. She had been diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas in February of this year.
Mrs. Marks was born November 27, 1923, in Chico, California, the daughter of Henry Cooper and Vera Opal Kelley Clark. She grew up in Roosevelt, Washington. After finishing school, she eventually moved to Seattle, Washington, where she worked for the Boeing Company building airplanes during World War II. It was in Seattle that she met a sailor aboard the USS Washington, Ernest Sanders Marks. They were married there on July 21, 1945. They moved to La Junta, Colorado where they lived for nearly three decades. In 1973, they moved to Paxico, Kansas and later to rural Maple Hill, Kansas.
Mrs. Marks was preceded in death by her husband on May 17, 1987. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Ernestine Henrietta Clark, one half-sister, Rose Marie Tynan and one half-brother, Adelbert Guy Tynan.
She is survived by her children: Sandra L. Marks-Johnson, Eskridge, KS.; Linda C. Cowan, Osage City, KS.; Timothy L. Marks, Houston, TX.; David L. Marks, Sr., Scranton, KS.; Joann L. "Jody" Hiegert, Maple Hill, KS.; Lori J. Zeller, Paxico, KS; and Jeffrey L. Marks, Maple Hill, KS. She is also survived by four sisters, Docia Knapp, Melba, ID; Delphine Wilson, Olympia, WA; Violet McLean, Post Falls, ID; and Marie Tynan; three brothers, Charley Clark, Bellingham, WA; Ernest "Red" Clark, Milton Freewater, OR; and Ervin Tynan, Toppenish, WA. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Crable Funeral Home, Eskridge, Kansas, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Eskridge Branch Library and sent in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include four daughters, Sandra L. Marks-Johnson, Eskridge, Linda C. Cowen, Osage City, Joann L. "Jody" Hiegert, Maple Hill, and Lori J. Zeller, Paxico; three sons, Timothy L. Marks, Houston, David L. Marks, Scranton, and Jeffrey L. Marks, Maple Hill; four sisters, Docia Knapp, Melba, Idaho, Delphine Wilson, Olympia, Wash., Violet McLean, Post Falls, Idaho, and Marie Tynan, address unknown; three brothers, Charley Clark, Bellingham, Wash., Ernest "Red" Clark, Milton Freewater, Ore., and Ervin Tynan, Toppenish, Wash.; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Eskridge United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Keene Cemetery, Keene.
Mrs. Marks will lie in state after 3 p.m. today at Crable Funeral Chapel, Eskridge, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
