Howard Alden (Jiggs) Bruce, 91, of Radford, died Mon., May 21, 2006 in a Radford Rehabilitation Center. He was a retired employee of Lynchburg Foundry Company. His many civic and community activities include being a member of Grove United Methodist Church, a member of the Radford Host Lions Club, also he served for 19 years as the Pastor of the Ferris Mines Christian Church. He was a former Radford City Magistrate, a member of the Gideons Society, a former member of the Radford City Electorial Board. He was a loyal supporter of both Radford High School and Virginia Tech athletics. He was also a worker in the old Parrott Mines and was working there during its closing. Surviving are his wife, Kate Huff Bruce, Radford; two brothers, Donald Bruce & his wife, Geraldine, Radford, and Ralph & Nancy Bruce, Richmond. Also his many friends in the Pulaski County area and his favorite golfing buddies. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Fri., May 25, at the Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Bennington and the Rev. David Trail officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Burial Park. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thurs., May 24, at the Grove United Methodist Church. DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford, is handling arrangements.
