Frank Scherf is fatally stricken at his residence
Boiler Firm Head Dies at Family Gathering on Anniversary
Frank Scherf, proprietor of the Frank Scherf Boiler Co., and well know livelong resident of Springfield, died suddenly last night at his home, 700 South Thirteenth Street. He was 67 years old. Mr Scherf had not been in the best of health recently but his condition was not considered seriuous and he had been active as usual. Yesterday was Mr and Mrs Scherf's thirty-ninth wedding anniversary and members of his family gathered last evening in celebration of the event when he was stricken about 9 o'clock. Mr Scherf was engaged in the boiler industry for more than half a century. At the age of 16 he began his trade as a boilermaker at the old Drake boiler works. Thirty-five years ago he established his own company, located for many years at Tenth and Cook Streets. He was born Nov 12 1873, in Springfield, a son of the late George and josephine Scherf. On Jan 22 1902, he married Miss Elizabeth Zender, who survives, together with three sons, John G., Albert and Frank Jr., all of this city; five daughters, Mrs. M.F. Hogan, St Louis, the Misses Louise, Clara, Josephine and Helen Scherf, all at home; two brothers, John and Joseph, city, two sister, Mrs. Mary Ettelbrick and Mrs. Josephone Nolan, city, also one granddaughter.
