Herman J. Schlenz of Sterling died Monday, Nov. 10, 1986 in Sterling. He was 87.
Recitation of the Rosary will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tennant Hettinger Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday from St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the Rev. Jim Hake and the Rev. Robert Reycraft the co-celebrates. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Schlenz was born March 10, 1899 in Tipton, Kan., the son of Anton and Anna Schadegg Schlenz, attended schools in Plainsvillle, Kan., and Olpe, Kan., and in 1917 moved to the St. Peter's community, south of Fleming.
He married Clara Lousberg Nov. 12, 1924 at St. Peter's and the couple moved to a farm in 1925. He assisted in constructing many buildings in the St. Peter's community, was a committeeman in the Rockland community.
The couple moved to Sterling in 1973 and semi-retired from farming, but Mr. Schlenz continued some farm work until 80 years old when he fully retired and became caretaker of Palmer Apartments. He was active in woodworking
until a few months ago. Mrs. Schlenz preceded him in death.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Sterling Elks Lodge, American Association of Retired Persons, Logan County Council for the Handicap, St. Peter's Choir, past member of the Farmer's Union and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by one son, Don Schlenz of Sterling; seven daughters, Arlene Drinkwine of Renton, Wash., Judy McMillan of Longmont, Delores Felt, Lila Monat, Florence Lock, Barbara Wisdom, and Marilyn Wernsman, all of Sterl ing; five brothers, Joe Schlenz and Con Schlenz, both of Denver; Hank Schlenz, Tony Schlenz and Lou Schelnz, all of California; three sisters, Nettle Koehier of Fleming, Marie Hake and Pauline Hake, both of Tipton, Kan.; 27 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
