Alfred R. Knowles, Sr., 135 Miller St., was dead on arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital this morning (Dec. 1) after an apparent attack of illness at his home.

Born Jan 15, 1904 in Knoxville, Pa., he was a son of the late Alfred R. and Rozella Mary (Patrick) Knowles. He spent most of his life in Wellsville.

Mr. Knowles retired after working 29 years for the Sinclair Refinery, where he was a member of the baseball team.

Surviving with his widow the former Alice M. Edwards and five daughters, Mrs. Frank (Edith) Morgan, Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Shirley Geer, Clovis, N.M., Mrs. Richard (Beverly Abbott, Cuba, Mrs. Frank (Helen) Hubbard, Rhine-Maine AFB, Frankfort, Germany, and Mrs. Robert (Alyce Noreen) Williams, Silver Springs, Maryland; three sons, Maj. (Ret) Alfred R. Jr., Arkport, Russell D. and Richard P., both of Wellsville; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Day, Wellsville; 24 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Friends may call Monday evening and Tuesday at the family home, where private funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday with the Rt, Rev. Norman J. O'Meara, Immaculate Conception Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
