Mrs. Alfred R. Knowles Sr.

Mrs. Alice M. Knowles formerly of 135 Miller St, Wellsville, died at Hewitt Manor in Shinglehouse Pa., Sunday, October 2, 1977 after a long illness.

Born June 21, 1902 in Independence, she was a daughter of Walter and Clara Edward Edwards. A life long resident of the Wellsville area, she was married June 4, 1923 to Alfred R. Knowles, who predeceased her in death on Dec. 1, 1969.

Mrs. Knowles was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Wellsville and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Surviving are five daughters Mrs. Frank (Edith) Whitehall, Ohio, Mrs. Shirley Geer, Clovis, New Mexico, Mrs. Richard (Beverly) Abbott, Cuba, New York, Mrs. Frank (Helen) Hubbard, Bethany Oklahoma and Mrs. Robert (Alyce Noreen) Williams, Frankfurt Germany; three sons, Maj. (Ret) Alfred R. Jr., Downey, Calif., Russell D. Wellsville and Richard P. Knowles of Troupsburg, New York; 25 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Angie Williamson of Riverview Fla., Mrs. Florence Paff of Arkport, Mrs. Ella Albert of Orlando, Fla, Mrs. Anna Wellington of Hornell nd Mrs. Cecil Lewison of Seattle, Wash., two brothers Nthan O. Edwards of Dansville and Donald Edwards of Andover and several nieces and nephews.

Friends were received at the Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc, Wellsville, Monday and Tuesday, where a prayer service was held Wednesday at 10 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 am. The Rev James Grimmer was the celebrant. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville.
