He was a full-time minister of the Gospel for more than 60 years, until his death on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at 3 a.m. in Denham Springs. He founded and pastored numerous Full Gospel churches in Livingston, St. Helena and Tangipahoa parishes. He also had an evangelistic/teacher ministry throughout the Southeastern United States. He was a resident of Walker and lifelong resident of Livingston Parish. He was born on Dec. 23, 1913, in Poley, and went home to his Lord and Savior four weeks short of his 93rd birthday. He was an employee of Standard Oil Co. from 1943 to 1957.

Visitation at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at the Redeeming Life Church, formerly Sonlight Ministries, on Walker North Road in Walker on Thursday from 11 a.m. until religious service at 1 p.m. Interment will take place at New Red Oak Cemetery in Livingston. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Benny Jones, the Rev. Wayne Mack, the Rev. Ted Burns and the Rev. Buddy Pendarvis.

He is survived by his children: a daughter, Sheryl Averett, and her husband, Jimmy, of Walker; and five sons, Elton Burns, and the Rev. Ted Burns and wife Hazel, all of Walker, and Gerald Burns and wife Melba, Robert Earl Burns and wife Glenda, and Doyle Burns and wife Jeanette, all of Denham Springs. He is also survived by his former daughter-in-law, Gertie Burns of Walker; two daughters-in-law, Virginia Burns of Denham Springs and Evelyn Burns of Walker; 27 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Gertrude Thornton Burns; his parents, Edmond and Olive Marie LeBlanc Burns; sons, Lester Ray, Homer William and Paul Leon Burns; daughter-in-law, Janice Burns; grandchildren, Donny Ray Burns, Homer William "Billy" Burns, Valmon Louis Burns and Shirlene Burns; and great-grandchildren, Jamie Lee Arnold and Noah Andrew Collett.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Milton, Kenny, Wayne, Darren and Paul Allen Burns and Jeremy Arnold. Arrangements by Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs.
