Born July 25, 1927, in Manhattan to Len and Emma Verwolf, she was raised and educated there. She married A.H. "Art" Funk on May 2, 1942, and the couple were looking forward to their 50th wedding anniversary.
She was past president of the Orchard Homes Women's Club, a member of Sweet Adelines, a lifelong Red Cross donor, a Cub Scout leader and 4-H leader at the Western Montana Fair. She did tape recording for blind students and worked with the Special Olympics.
Her beautiful singing voice and her laughter will be sorely missed. In the 1950s, she sometimes sang in the Bozeman area, and Art played the trombone. She also sang in church choirs in Bozeman and Missoula. She enjoyed painting as a hobby.
Survivors include her husband, at the family home; three sons, Mark and Greg, both of Seattle, and Neal, Miami; two daughters, Debbie Nentwig, Billings, and Sheila Clark, Miami; seven sisters, Dixie Heath, Spokane; Judy Raser, Stevensville; Helen Holderby, Walla Walla, Wash.; Bertha Metcalf, Margaret Campbell and Betty Jean Julian, all of Manhattan; and June Coleman, Townsend; one brother, Barney Verwolf, Florence; and nine grandchildren. A sister preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Garden City Funeral Home & Chapel with her son Greg officiating. The Sweet Adelines will sing.
The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor's choice.
