Frieda Rakow was born in Illinois, on March 6, 1891. She was the last one of eight children born to Christian C. Rakow and Louise (Trotz) Rakow.
Frieda's father worked as a laborer, after coming to this country from Germany in 1867, at 25 years old. Frieda had 3 sisters and 4 brothers, all older than her.
Frieda never married. She supported herself since she was 19 years old. We find her employed as a dressmaker on the 1910 Census.
In 1919 Frieda's beloved father died, at age 77. On 1920 Census, she is sewing for a Department Store in Bloomington, Illinois, where she has lived since she was 9 years old. It is possible that is where she was born, but I don't have a record that tells me that. She lived the remainder of her life in Bloomington.
On 1930 Census, Frieda is a file clerk for an Insurance Company and remains an employee of State Farm Insurance Company until she retired.
Frieda's mother, Louise died in 1934 at age 89.
In 1955 at age 64 Frieda is still working, but by 1957, at age 66 we see on the City Directory that she is no longer working.
Frieda lived to be 86 years old. She died on April 20, 1977 in Bloomington, Illinois. She was laid to rest in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, the same cemetery as her mother and father.
