SERVICES FOR HENRY GAINES HELD WEDNESDAY
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 12, at the Heitner Funeral home for Henry Gaines, who died suddenly Saturday morning at the age of 90 of a heart attack at the home of a daughter and son in law, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Culbertson. The Rev. Donald Roesti officiated.
Mr. Gaines was born May 9, 1870, to Christian and Catherine Gaines. He lived on a farm 3 miles south of Wells before moving to Wells 34 years ago. He worked at the canning factory for many years. His wife, the former Lydia Schultz, preceded him in death, in July 1939. A daughter, Edna, and five brothers also preceded him in death.
Pall bearers were his nephews, Wilbur Gaines, Charles Gaines, Elvoy Schultz, Frank Kirschner, Ervin Schultz and Frank Schroeder.
Immediate survivors are five sons, Melvin, Wells; Maynard and Garfield both of Minneapolis; Clarence, Portland, Ore., and S. Sgt Kenneth with the U.S. Air Force in Korea; three daughters, Mrs. William (Mildred) Frederick, Mrs. Kenneth Culbertson (Kenneth), and Mrs. Lester G. (Marcella) Culbertson, all of Wells; one sister, Mrs. John Kirschner of Wells; one brother, the Rev. William Gaines, Big Stone City, S.D.; 23 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Interment was in the Rosehill Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Heitner Funeral Home.
