Kenneth M Gaines, Sr., age 74, of Bandera passed away Monday May 3, 1999 in a San Antonio hospital. He was born August 26, 1924 in Wells, Minnesota, to Henry and Lydia Schultz Gaines. On July 12, 1951, he married Lola Dell Carpenter in San Antonio. She survives. In 1964, he retired as Master Sergeant from the Air Force after serving 21 years. In addition to his wife Lola of Bandera, survivors include 2 daughters, Luetta Barnet of San Antonio and Cherry D Barrett of Bandera; 3 stepdaughters, Joan Queen of Tennessee, Peggy Boni of New Jersey, and Patricia Gail Fordham of Austin; 1 son, Kenneth M Gaines, Jr. of Lakehill; 3 stepsons, Virgil R Adamson of Bandera, Jack C Adamson of Boerne, and Rickie Adamson of Bandera; one sister, Marcella Culbertson of Minnesota; 29 grandchildren, and 39 great grandchildren. Memorial services were held Thursday May 6, 1999, 3:00 PM, Grimes Funeral Chapel with Mr. Martin Smith officiating. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Bandera Library. Arrangements are under the direction of GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPEL OF BANDERA.
