"The funeral of Joseph Abel, 64, who died in the Marine Hospital in New Orleans Sunday night, will be held from the residence on Chartres street this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Services will be conducted at the Epworth Methodist church by Rev.George and interment will be in the Biloxi cemetery. Besides his wife, he leaves six daughters, Mrs. Celestine Dalgo, Mrs. Leona Matulich, Mrs. Hazel Lopez, Mrs. Ola Hamilton and Misses Pearl and Priscilla Abel; two sons, Carlyle and Ferrill Abel and a brother Edward Abel."

"Joseph C. Abels(sic), a native of Pascagoula and a resident of Biloxi for many years, died in the Marine Hospital in New Orleans last night following a brief illness. He was well known to many along the coast particularly in the Marine industry, having been a caulker and repairer of boats for years, which trade he practiced until his illness. His body was brought to Biloxi this morning on the L. & N. train No. 4 accompanied by relatives. Funeral will be held tomorrow from the residence on Chartres street. Besides his wife he leaves six daughters and two sons, and a brother."∼Joseph Able was born at Pascagoula, Mississippi and make his livelihood as a caulker in shipyards. Circa 1892, Joseph married Ella Mae Ladnier (1873), probably in Jackson County, Mississippi. By 1900, the Ables had four children, those extant at this time were: Charles Able (b. 1893); Florence Able (b. 1896); and Celestine Able (b. 1898).(1900 Jackson Co., Mississippi Federal Census R 812, p. 5-ED 40)
