Lee B. Chancellor, 81, of Kirksville, MO, passed away May 16, 2006, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.

The son of John R. and Stella Grace (Billups) Chancellor, he was born on May 15, 1925, in rural Scotland County, MO.

On August 24, 1947, in Memphis, MO, he was united in marriage to Helen Nadine Winn, who preceded him in death on October 11, 2004.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; two children, infant daughter, Sandra Kay and infant son, Tommy Eugene; three brothers, Max, Paul and Joe Chancellor.

Lee is survived by his children, Brenda Schneider and husband, Lee of Cape Girardeau, MO, Jerry Chancellor of Crittendon, KY, and Lezlie Rush of Pecatonica, IL; two brothers, Miles Chancellor and wife, Bobby of Memphis, MO, and Lyle Chancellor and wife, Sherry of Keokuk, IA; three sisters, Garnett Tripp of Kahoka, MO, Mary Norton of Olathe, KS, and Cathleen Tripp and husband, Dennis of Volin, SD; four grandchildren, Tom Moyer and wife, Alicia, Aaron Schneider, Whitnie and Brendon Rush; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Dakotah Moyer; several nieces and nephews.

Lee attended West Liberty Elementary School and Oak Ridge Middle School, until the eighth grade when he went to work farming. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He then worked for Mason Oil as a bulk fuel tank driver and also ran the hardware store in Rutledge until he purchased the store in the early 1950's and operated Chancellor Hardware until he retired. He moved to Kirksville in 1997 to make his home.

He was a member of the Rutledge Lodge #343 A.F. & A.M. for 50 years and the Rutledge Community Church. He enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals games, spending time outdoors and smoking his pipe. He was on a bowling league in Memphis for many years.

A funeral service was held May 19, 2006, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Pauline Cemetery in Rutledge, MO. Pallbearers were Bill Rush, Greg Norton, Don Chancellor, Alvin Tripp, Dana Tripp, and Ray Chancellor. Memorials in memory of Lee may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
