Sam was born in Stephens County to George Washington and Mary Florence Gibson Morton.
He attended schools at Ward's Chapel and Kanawha in Red River County.
He married Mary Ellen Whitley on February 2, 1929.
Sam was a farmer and operated Morton's Conoco in Reno from 1959 until 1965.
He did wood working for several years and was a Baptist.
Surviving are his wife; 3 sons, 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren.
