Mildred married Otto Melber and their daughter was Barbara Gayle Mokry. Mildred worked 27 years for the Texas Department of Public Safety and retired in 1986. She devoted the rest of her life as a caregiver to serve various family members and was a volunteer for the residents of Heatherwilde Assisted Living. She was a volunteer at Heatherwilde for eight years and was awarded the Assisted Living Volunteer of the Year before becoming a resident herself in 2009. Mildred was a lifelong member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
