May Folsom VanHorn, eldest daughter of Reed and Cordelia Goff VanHorn was born at Clarinda, April 19, 1891 and departed this life at Leon, January 19, 1965 at the age of 75 years and 9 months. As a young child she moved with her parents to Decatur County where she spent the remainder of her life.
On July 2, 1910 she was united in marriage with Harry H. Reynolds. To this union 13 children were born,11 of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Wilbur (Nadine) Baker, Des Moines; Mrs. Stephen (Retha) McLain, Des Moines; Elmer Reynolds, Marysville, CA; Clair Reynolds, Baldwin Park, CA; Mrs. William (Edith) Franklin, Winchester, IL; Richard Reynolds, Sacramento, CA; Mrs B. D. (Iva) Robertson, Richland, WA; SFC Harley Reynolds of Ft. Amador, Canal Zone; Mrs Dennis (Teresa) West, Des Moines; Mrs. Arthur (Dollie) Sissel, Falmouth, KY; Max Reynolds, Martensdale.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs Pearl Orr, Paradise, CA; three brothers George VanHorn, Ottumwa; Harry and Clarence VanHorn whose addresses are unknown. Surviving are 47 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six sons-in-law; five daughters-in-law and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister, (Hazel); two sons, infant Howard Gene and Chief Gunners Mate Hubert, U.S. Navy; two grandsons and a granddaughter.
As a young girl she became a member of the Pentecostal church. She was a Gold Star Mother. Mrs Reynolds was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary; VFW Auxiliary and the Leon Garden Club, as well as various other organizations. She was a member of AMVETS.
Funeral services were conducted January 23 by the Rev. Kenneth E Davis from the Stewart Funeral Home with interment in the Leon cemetery.
