James was the second son of Moses Jarman and Hester Matilda Shivers Jarman. On September 15, 1909 he married Bessie K. Willis. They had no children and were farmers. His siblings were Cora Florence Jarman born Feb. 8, 1886 and married Solomon Rhodes; John Robert "Johnny" Jarman born Sept. 26, 1889 and married Nellie Wells; Nase Samuel "Nace" Jarman born Sept. 28, 1891 and married Lula Bell Marshburn; Mary Matilda Jarman born Sept. 27, 1893 and married John Lewis Jarman from Jones County; Hester Mittia (Hett) born May 7, 1896 and who married Alva Leslie Marshburn; Temie Corilla Jarman born March 5, 1901 and who married Walter Leamon Gould. His father Moses farmed land which now belongs to the Bertie Smith descendents. His mother Hester died March 3, 1924 and is buried next to Moses. He died from complications of typhoid fever.
