Johnny Wilson
HOUSTON – On Feb. 22, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer, John Andrew "Johnny" Wilson, 74, of Houston, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Johnny enjoyed an active life, which he shared with his wife, Nancy, for 57 of his years. Together they reared three daughters while owning and operating Wilson Furniture and Appliance Inc. and several businesses in Northeast Mississippi.

Johnny graduated from Houston High School in 1953, and he served in the National Guard for eight years in the 223rd Engineering Battalion. Afterward he went to school in New York and studied at the Radio Training Center and received a Technical Engineering Degree in T.V. and radio repair. He opened his first business in 1964.

Through the years he opened and grew several more businesses. He was owner and president of Wilson Furniture and Appliance Inc. and Curtis Mathis Home Entertainment Centers of Northeast Mississippi for 35 years.

Through his businesses he always coupled his love for serving others with his meticulous attention to detail and joy he found in fixing things.

He belonged to and served as chairman for several organizations over his years in business, such as The Chickasaw Development Foundation, The Exchange Club, Houston Proud, The Retail Merchants' Association, The Jaycees and a member of The American Legion.

Johnny had many interests. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and children and together they saw many places. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast who could always be found "tinkering" around in the yard. Johnny also loved attending musical concerts and shows, especially anything Elvis. He also loved antique car shows.

Johnny was preceded in death by his father, James Leonard Wilson, and mother, Melinda Elizabeth Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wilson; his three daughters and their husbands, Angela and Walt Dallas of Jackson, Lana and Alan Whitworth of Houston, and Wendy and Steven Sullivan of Jackson; his three grandchildren, Lance Whitworth, Luke Dallas and Wilson Dallas; his two brothers, Robert Byron Wilson and wife, Mary Lois, of Houston, and James Ford Wilson and wife, Ruth, of Severna Park, Md.; his sister, Mary Emma Abernathy of Gulfport; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Houston with Rev. Phillip Dearman and Dr. Roger McGrew officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery in Houston. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
