Nola Parker was ninth and last child of parents who had emigrated from Georgia after the Civil War. Her family named their eighth child Ida Texanna who was born just after the famlly arrived in Texas; then their next child was named Panola for the county in which they settled. Panola (Nola) grew up in Carthage, married J. Garner in 1890; their family grew to ten children. Their youngest was only a year of age when John Edward died.
