Leeds, North Dakota---Lavern J. "Pat" Patterson, 85, Leeds, died Friday, April 19, 2002, in Towner County Medical Center, Cando, North Dakota.

Lavern J. Patterson was born February 7, 1917, the son of Joseph and Mary (Dahlum) Patterson, in Aneta, North Dakota. They moved to East Grand Forks where he graduated from high school in 1935. He workdd at Whitey's Wonder Bar, East Grand Forks, from 1937 to 1947, with time off to serve in the U.S. Navy from April 1945 to April 1946. He also worked in the Kansas oil fields and worked briefly on the Alaskan Pipeline. He married Ruth Fahey on Aug. 12, 1939, in Grand Forks. In 1947, they moved to Leeds, where he owned and operated a tavern. In 1960, he sold the tavern and bought a grocery store. He owned Pat's Fairway until retiring and selling the business in 1976. He worked part time for the North Dakota Highway Department and at Tester Molding in Leeds. Ruth Patterson Died May 13, 1998.

He is survived by a son Mike, Los Angeles; a daughter Jan (Edward) Chavez, Whittier, California; four grand daughters; and a brother Don, Grand Forks.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Faye Funk; a sister Jane Lee; and brothers, Pat, Joe, Charles and Martin.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Lebanon Free Lutheran Church, Leeds.

Visistation: 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Nelson Funeral Home, Leeds, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Leeds Cemetery

Military rites: Leeds American Legion Post 101.
