I. Harris Giffin, 89, of Parkersburg, died at St. Joseph's Hospital Friday morning, March 25, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Belmont County, Ohio, a son of the late John R. and Jane Carpenter Giffin.

He resided in Wirt County most of his life, was a farmer, a member of the Grandview Church of Christ, and a veteran of World War I.

He is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Dora) Deem, with whom he had resided for the past three years, and Mrs. Michael (Hazel) Ray, of Parkersburg, Mrs. Ada Mae Wade, and Mrs. Donald (Margaret) Reeves, of Vienna, Mrs. Russell (Norma) Thomas, of Wadesville, Mrs. John (Edith) Freeman, of San Jose, Calif., and Mrs. Don (Pauline) McVey, of Elizabeth; six sons, Delbert Clyde, of Little Rock, Ark., Chester B., of Huntsville, Ala., Herman L., of Troy, Mich., Raymond L., of Parkersburg, Harvey A., of Columbus, O., and Gerald L., of Bloomington, Minn.; two brothers, Warren, of Belpre, and Sam, of New Milford, O.; 38 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Matheny Giffin, in 1958 and a daughter, and five brothers. Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at the Franklin and Son Memorial Chapel with Evangelist Clarence DeLoach officiating. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery in Wirt County.
