Mrs. Laura L. Matheny Giffin, 55, of Rt. 3, Elizabeth, the wife of Harris Giffin, died at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg, following several months illness. Born Nov. 23, 1902, in Jackson County, she was a daughter of the late William and Jennie Matheny. She was a member of the Rose Hill Methodist Church and had resided in the Rose Hill area for the past 36 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Ada Mae Wade, Miss Margaret Leona Giffin, Miss Pauline Virginia Giffin, Miss Hazel Eloise Giffin, all at home, Mrs. Thomas Deem, Parkersburg, Miss Norma Kathryn Giffin, Parkersburg, and Mrs. John Freeman, Columbus, O.; six sons, Delbert Clyde Giffin, of Little Rock, Ark., Chester Burl Giffin, Oxford, Ala., Herman Leroy Giffin, Madison Heights, Mich., Raymond Lloyd Giffin, stationed with the U.S. Army in Germany, Harvey Austin Giffin, at home, and Gerald Leon Giffin, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothea Winn, of Cincinnati, O., Mrs. Hattie Randolph of Columbus, O.; two brothers, Charles F. Matheny, Parkersburg, and Everett H. Matheny, Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren. One daughter, Doris Eileen Giffin, preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at Rose Hill Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marice Miller officiating. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetey. Franklin Funeral Home was in charge of arramgements.
