487th Port Battalion
Army Private First Class, killed Dec. 16, 1944, when a German V-1 buzz bomb hit a theater in Belgium where he was watching a movie, demolishing the theater. He was the son of Ernest W. & Alva A. (Patrie) Abair of 95 Yale St. Ludlow, MA and a 1940 graduate of Ludlow High School.
He entered the service in March of 1943, went overseas in September of that year, was a veteran of the Normandy invasion and the battles of France and Belgium.
Received the Purple Heart medal.
