Charles F. Wood is the son of George Alfred Wood and Phebe Ann (White) Wood. The family lived in New York City, house number 1525, ward 19. Charles came to Rockville, Parke County, Indiana with his parents before the Civil War in 1861. They brought a group of orphan children to homes in this county.

He worked doing considerable building and carpenter work in and about Rockville with his father, George A. Wood, his brother, William Henry and his brother-in-law, Pleasant Brown when a young man. They were known for their lattice trim work on many of the large older homes in Rockville.

Brother of Sidney, William Henry, George W., Marietta Cecelia and Ida Louisa Wood.

Married Margaret "Maggie" Brownlow Jacks on November 5, 1876, in Parke County, Indiana. They were married for 47 years. The family lived in Parke County, with the exception of about 12 years of residence in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana.

He was the father of Frank who died in infancy (8 days), Grace Pearl who died at the age of 23, and Floy Elsie. Grandfather of James Everett and Kenneth Russell Martin.

In very early life he united with the Methodist church, remaining a member to his death.
