Matthew Kirkwood, a Decatur mail carrier for 35 years before his retirement in 1936, died at 7:28 a.m. yesterday in his home at 1053 N. Main St. He was 84. Mr. Kirwood was born in Sparta on March 20, 1971, a son of Robert and Maria Kirkwood.
He moved to Decatur 63 years ago and on Nov. 3, 1898 was married to Myrtle Huff, who died June 11, 1949,
Surviving are four sons, Harold, Seattle, Wash.; Roy, Champaign; Eugene, Aberdeen, Wash.; and Charles, Decatur; and two daughters, Mrs. Harriett Whenn and Mrs. Dorothy Swan, both of Decatur.
Mr. Kirkwood was a member of the Grace Methodist Church.
Funeral services in the Monson Funeral Home. Burial in Fairlawn Cemetery.
