His hobby was woodworking and he enjoyed community envolvement. He loved people and it showed in everthing he did.
Bert was active in his community as a boy scout leader, and an active church leader. He was a Chico Fireman voluteer throughout the early 1900's. First Sergeant Bert Pingrey was a lifelong member of the California National Guard and participated in the Boarder War with Mexico. During WW II he was a 2nd Lt. and Commanding Officer of the California State Guard at the Chico Army Airfield.
