MRS. MELVIN GIBBS DIES AT HOME IN CARO

Death of her son, Elmer A. Jones, Four Weeks Ago, Causes Nervous Collapse

Mrs. Sarah Culbert Jones, wife of Melvin Jones, died at her home on West Sherman Street Sunday evening, after an illness of four weeks. The shock of the death of her son, Elmer A. Jones, December 31, caused a collapse of the nervous system.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. H.W. Kuman officiating. Arrangements were in charge of John Collon and burial was made in Caro cemetery. Among those from a distance who were called here by her illness and death were Mrs. Estella George, daughter, Clinton and Blanche George, Miss Barbara Culbert of Detroit; Mrs. A.H Culbert, and three daughters, Mrs. C.S. Sheldon, Mrs. S.W. Rathke, Mrs. Fred Bouchard of Bay City; Robert Kincaid of Stillwell, Ind., and two sons, Edgar Kincaid of South Bend, Ind., Adam Kincaid, Battle Creek; Mrs. Minnie Culbert, Saginaw; Mrs. Alice Mallory, Akron; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mallory, Fairgrove; Emerald Mallory, Frankenmuth; Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Dickison, Edward Dickison and daughter Dorothy, Arkona, Ontario. Six nephews acted as pallbearers: Emerald Mallory, Frankenmuth; Harold Mallory, Fairgrove; Ed. Dickison, Arkona, Ont.; Melvin Culbert, Caro; Adam Kincaid, Battle Creek; and Edgar Kincaid, South Bend, Ind.

Mrs. Jones was born April 16, 1859 near London, Ont., and after her marriage on October 21, 1880 to Melvin Jones, came to Fairgrove township, in the Moreland district. Four children were born to them, all of whom survive except for Elmer A. Jones. The children are Mrs. Estella George of Detroit; Mrs. Charles A. Gibbs, Caro; and Arnott N. Jones, Bad Axe. She leaves ten grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Alice Mallory, Akron; Mrs. Cora Burroughs, Oakland, Calif.; A.H. Culbert, Bay City; William Culbert, Wyoming, Ont. She was one of 12 children in the family of Thomas and Emeline Culbert.

After leaving this county several years ago, she lived in Detroit for a number of years. She was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian church in that city and for a number of years was president of the ladies missionary society and active in other departments of church work. Returning to Caro about five years ago, she affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal church.

The occasion of the Golden Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Jones in 1930 was celebrated by their family and friends.
