---Marshall Martin Self, son of Presley and Mariah Ann Self, was born March 26, 1856, and departed this earthly life on September 28, 1926, being at the time of his death, seventy years, six months and two days old.
---He spent the greater part of his live in and near La Plata. In the year 1883 he was married to Maggie Hubbard who preceded him in death in 1897. To this union three children were born, one son and two daughters, the son passing away in infancy and one daughter, Lovie, died at the age of twelve.
---The only daughter, Ophie, who is now Mrs. Dr. Eitel, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, survives.
---In the year 1899 Mr. Self was married to Mollie Spencer, who, with one brother, Presley Self of La Plata, and the daughter, Mrs. Eitel and three grandsons, mourn his death.
---Mr. Self had been in poor health for many months and had left his home to live with his daughter where he might be better cared for, but with all that hands of loving wife and daughter could do he had to answer the final summons to come up higher to meet the God he had so faithfully served.
---In early life Mr. Self united with the Methodist Church, later being identified with the Christian Church at La Plata where he served as a faithful member and elder until he was forced to be absent in body, but he was always present in spirit and was eager to talk of the things of the Kingdom when visited by his pastor or those of his brethren who so faithfully called upon him.
---Funeral services were held from the La Plata Christian Church Friday at 2:00, conducted by Rev. J.L. Shoemaker, pastor of the Christian Church. Interment was made in La Plata cemetery.
