Presley Self married Mariah Ann Monroe on January 2, 1838 in Barren County, Kentucky and they had twelve children:

After Presley died Mariah Ann and several of her children left the hilly terrain of Kentucky and moved to Missouri in 1878 where they settled on some of the beautiful farm land around La Plata, Missouri.
