Dr. Lynd was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1842, a son of Rev. Dr. Samuel W. and Leonora Maria Staughton Lynd. His cause of death was tuberculosis at the age of 29. At the time of his death, Charles was serving as the District Physician of the Sixteenth Ward. He was revered, especially by the poor of his wards, and was lovingly remembered for his "manliness, honesty, and Christian character."
