Leonora and Samuel W. Lynd for several years conducted a successful school for young ladies in Baltimore. In 1830, they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where her husband became the pastor of the Ninth Street Baptist Church. This church later moved to Sixth Street and became the Sixth Street Baptist Church. On Easter Sunday, 1837, Rev. Samuel Lynd officiated at the first service at the new church.
Being the wife of a Baptist minister, Leonora lived in several different cities after her husband resigned his pastorship in Cincinnati, including St. Louis, MO, Lockport, IL, and Chicago, IL. Sometime after 1855, Leonora and Dr. Lynd came back to Cincinnati where Dr. Lynd was minister of the Mt. Auburn Baptist Church.
Leonora returned with her husband to their farm in Lockport, IL around 1863-1864. Leonora died in Lockport in 1877, surviving her husband by only seven months. Besides her parents and husband, Leonora was preceded in death by her elder brother, William Hinton Staughton, who died at the age of 21 months on December 14, 1799 in Burlington, NJ, her brother Dr. James Martin Staughton, who died in 1833; her sister Elizabeth Ann Staughton Temple, who died in 1849 in Missouri, and her sons James William Lynd, who died in 1862 in MN, and Dr. Charles A. Lynd, who died in 1871.
Leonora Maria Staughton Lynd was survived by four sons: Dr. Robert Ralston Lynd, Captain George Martin Lynd, Staughton Lynd, and Elijah W. Lynd. Four daughters also survived her: Mary Staughton Lynd Burnet, Catharine Lynd Snow, Leonora Maria Lynd Lull, and Elizabeth Lynd Robins, and by her stepmother, Anna Claypoole Peale Staughton Duncan.
