Dwight and Clora were active members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Dwight taught school at an Adventist Academy in Healdsburg, California for a number of years. Dwight was also one of Arizona's first Game Wardens before his marriage.

Dwight died as a result of a farm accident while helping a rancher put up hay. Dwight was on a hay wagon when the horses spooked and ran across the field. Dwight lost his balance, fell off the wagon, and was crushed when one of the wagonwheels stopped on top of his chest, causing his instant death. His family were left in rather poor circumstances without the love and care of the Husband and Father.
