Patrick Joseph Lynch was the youngest of the 12 children of Cornelius Lynch (1836-1920) and Bridget Harris (1842-1915), immigrants from Ballyduff, County Waterford,Ireland. Patrick started the Lynch Brothers Diamond Drilling Company in Juneau, Alaska with his brother Dick in 1914. The company moved to Seattle where two other brothers, Will and Dan, and many nephews worked for the company. Lynch Brothers did the initial core drilling for the foundations virtually every significant dam in the Pacific Northwest, including Grand Coulee and Bonneville.

Patrick was married to Florence Lowney (1893-1983). He was the brother of Michael, Daniel, Mary, Bridget, John, Cornelius, Timothy, William and Richard Lynch.
