Jack was married to Josephine "Phenie" Bartlett and had one son, John Harris Lynch. Jack & Phenie operated a store in Loretto, Michigan before moving to Great Falls. Jack slipped into depression when a similar store failed in Montana. He worked for a time at the Great Northern Express Office before taking a job at a mine in Barker (now a ghost town).
On December 20, 1913, while staying in Great Falls' Keystone Hotel, Jack ended his life by swallowing carbolic acid, a common, but very painful form of suicide in the day.
