Cornelius Lynch was the son of Daniel Lynch and Mary Garan. he was a blacksmith. he married Bridget Harris in Ballyduff, Ireland on Feb. 16, 1864. They arrived in America on May 16, 1865 with their firstborn son, Michael. They first settled in Franklin Township near Hancock, Michigan. Here their son Daniel and daughters Mary and Bridget were born. They then moved to Ishpeming, where son John was born. But tragedy struck there as well when six year-old Michael fell to his death while reaching for wild blueberries on a cliff. The family moved to Greenland, Michigan where son Cornelius was born. Finally, they settled in Republic, where sons Timothy, Richard, William and Patrick were born.

Many of the sons moved to Butte, Montana to work in mines as adults and then on to Seattle and Alaska where they formed the Lynch Brothers Diamond Drilling Company. The Lynch Brothers did the initial core drilling for the Grand Coulee Dam and virtually every major dam in the Pacific Northwest constructed between 1918 and 1945.

Cornelius and his wife remained in Republic for the remainder of their lives. Scores of descendants live today, mostly in the Pacific Northwest.

The space above his wife's name on the tombstone was meant for Cornelius. It is unknown why it was never added, but his body lies next to hers.
