James V. "Jiggs" Magliocco, 82, of Newfield passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011, in South Jersey Healthcare Elmer Hospital.

Jiggs was born and raised in Malaga and was a long time Newfield Borough resident.He was the last surviving child of Maria (Baldino) and Luigi Magliocco. He was predeceased by his brothers, Gaspare, John, Joseph, Eugene, Thomas, Frank and Louis; as well as his sisters, Rita Pacifico, Teresa Sylvester and Elizabeth Jianotti.

Jiggs was the owner and operator of the family operated Saul's Dairy. He was involved in numerous affairs in town, including a 55-year member of Newfield Fire Company; First United Methodist Church, 56 years; superintendent of Rose Hill Cemetery, 34 years; Salvation Army Unit/co-chair Tiny Tim, 30 years; chair Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets for needy seniors, 30 years; and the Foreign Exchange Student program, 26 years. Jiggs also was a member of the American Legion, VFW and the Gloucester County Civil Defense Unit. He was a former member of the Newfield Recreation, Republican and past president Newfield Kiwanis Club, of which he was selected the Man of the Year in 1980. He was the chair of the first borough Christmas parade in 1980. As everyone knows, he bled Eagles green and was a 47-year Eagle season ticketholder. Jiggs was a 1944 graduate of Clayton High School and a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet L. (Saul); two daughters, Beth Ann and Jamie; three grandchildren, David and Dawn Cella and Brittany Moncrief; an adopted Norwegian exchange student, Tone Lorenizi; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Road, Vineland, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of Newfield, Columbia Avenue and Elmo Street, where his funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Newfield.
