Carol V. (Elder) Compton, 92, of Winfield passed away Feb. 7, 2008, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials are to the First Presbyterian Church and the Cowley County Humane Society.
Carol was born June 20, 1915 in Douglass, to W. Elmer and M. Vina (Washburn) Elder. She graduated from Douglass High School in 1933. She attended Butler Couty Community College and Southwestern College to obtain her teaching degree.
She married Samuel "Ted" Compton on May 28, 1944, in Wichita. She taught in rural Butler County schools, Belle Plaine Elementary School, music in rural Cowley County schools and Winfield public schools from 1957 until her retirement in 1981, She was also a substitute organist in several Winfield area churches.
She was a member of the National Education Association, the Kansas National Education Association, American Guild of Organists and Queen City Chapter 138 Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the chancel choir at the First Presbyterian Church for 59 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, on Oct. 20, 1975.
Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Compton, Wichita Falls, Texas; a sister-in-law, Thelma Elder, Rio Rancho, N.M.; nieces, Janice Rothlauf, Leavenworth, Barbara Bradburn, Wichita, Julie Hilding, Lansing, and Debbie Potter, Rio Rancho, N.M.; and nephews, Donald Elder, Rio Rancho N.M. amd Dick Elder, Wichita.
