Hazleton Plain Speaker; Thursday, March 1, 1945:
"Michael Schott"
Michael Schott, of 304 Adams street, Freeland, former Freeland councilman who was General Pershing's chauffeur in France for several months during the first World War, died at the State Hospital at 2:30 o'clock this morning. He had been a patient at the institution for the past three months. He was born in Drifton, spent all his life on the North Side and prior to being taken ill was employed as an inspector at the Bendix Aviation plant in Philadelphia. For many years he operated a garage business at Freeland and was the first regional agent for Willys-Knight and Overland motor cars. He served on the Freeland borough council from 1936 to 1939 and was the first Republican candidate to win an election in the strongly Democratic Fifth Ward in many years. He was a member of the Freeland American Legion Post 473 and of St. Mary's Greek Catholic church, Freeland.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Krushko; five children: Mary Ann, Michael, Jr., Paul, Helen and Myron, all at home; his aged mother, Mrs. Mary Schott, of Freeland; and four brothers and sisters: Andrew, Freeland stripping contractor; Anna, of Freeland; Mrs. Mary Minnar, of Philadelphia and John, of Monoa, PA. His father, Andrew Schott, St., died eight years ago and a brother William died four years ago.

The body will be taken tomorrow to the home of his mother at 519 Hemlock street, Freeland, from where the funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services will be conducted in St. Mary's G. C. church at 2:30 and interment will be in the parish cemetery.

"Schott" - At Hazleton, Thursday, March 1st, Michael Schott. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the home of his mother, Mrs. Mary Schott, 519 Hemlock St., Freeland, with continued services at 2:30 o'clock in St. Mary's G. C. church, Freeland. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. McNulty funeral Service.

The funeral of Michael Schott, of 304 Adams street, Freeland, ex-serviceman and former Freeland garageman, who died Thursday, was held yesterday afternoon at two o'clock from the home of his mother, Mrs. Mary Schott, 519 Hemlock street, Freeland. Continued services were conducted at 2:30 o'clock in St. Mary's G. C. church, Freeland, by the pastor the Rev. Arnold Suba, and interment was in the parish cemetery. Military rites were conducted by members of Freeland Post 473, of the American Legion, assisted by several soldiers home on leave. Sgt. John R. Stoffa was in charge. The firing squad was made up of George Marencin, John Muscovitch, Sr., Andrew Wasowicz, and John Provizzi. Commander George Kostelnack and Clarence Bechtloft were the color guards and John Drauschak, Jr., was the bugler. The pallbearers were: Postmaster Neale J. Boyle, Michael Kunrad, John Soltis, Harry Petrosky, Michael Bzdil and Elmer Kline.
