Per Bowdle Pioneer Newspaper 23rd August 1923, "Obituary.....Mrs. Elizabeth Hoerner was born in the old country in 1871, died August 16, 1923. Mrs. Hoerner formerly resided in Hoven, S.D., but for the past twenty five years was a resident of the Bowdle neighborhood. She is survived by 12 children, 5 daughters and 7 sons.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, August 20th, at St. Augustine's Church in Bowdle. Solemn Requiem High Mass was sung by Rev. Henry Hoerner (son of the deceased), who was assisted by Rev. John A. Krebs, of Orient, S.D. as Deacon, the Rev. Louis Brunner of Hoven, as Subdeacon, and Rev. Joseph Carrol, of Columbus College, Sioux Falls, S.D. as Master of Ceremonies. Other Priests attending in the Sanctuary were: Rev J.I. Kettler, Bowdle, Rev Barnmann, Ipswich, Rev Schell, Aberdeen, Rev. W.J. Dinneg, Columbus College, Sioux Falls and Rev. Joseph Hensbach, Hillsview. Father Hensbach preached and eloquent and appropriate sermon for the occasion.

A very large attendance of both Protestants and Catholics filled the church to it's utmost capacity, the deceased being highly esteemed by all who knew her.

The body was laid to rest in the cemetary of St. Augustine's Church, the pall bearers being Wm Blossey, Geo, Blondo, John Hoven, P.M. Heilman, P.P. Heilman and Anton Heintz.

The mourners of the deceased take this occasion to thank one and all, who have generously assisted them in every way possible during their sorrow and bereavement.
