Angharad Lake-Walters married William James in Carmarthenshire, Wales in 1874. From this union Mary Hannah and Rees were born. William James' sister, Hannah James, helped William and Angharad come to the United States. Hannah James married David Llewellyn. David and Hannah Llewellyn immigrated to San Francisco, California. David passed away in 1883 and Hannah settled down in Los Angeles with her children. David and Hannah Llewellyn were the parents of the owner's of Llewellyn Iron Works in Los Angeles. This company was partly responsible for developing Los Angeles from a pueblo into the city it is today.
On an interesting sidenote, Angharad Lake and her brother-in-law David Llewellyn's older brother Reese Llewellyn appear to have beeen living in the same household (Mount Pleasant) in 1851 in Brynamman, Wales, Reese as a lodger and Angharad as a servant. Reese was the first Llewellyn to immigrate to the United States, settling in San Francisco, California. Reese's brother David and David's immediate family later followed.
In 1894, Hannah and some of her family went back to Wales and accompanied William, Angharad, Mary Hannah, and Rees to the United States. On October 7, 1894 they sailed from Liverpool to New York, New York, aboard the Teutonic. They arrived in New York on November 15, 1894. Angharad's two older sons (Thomas and John "y Dŵr" Walters) were in their 30's, with families, so they stayed behind in Wales.
Angharad and her family lived at 926 E. 8th Street, in Los Angeles, California. William James passed away on February 17, 1909. Angharad Lake-James passed away on November 16, 1913.
They are both buried on the grounds of the oldest existing Cemetery in Los Angeles, the Evergreen Cemetery, 204 N Evergreen Ave, Los Angeles, California.
