US ARMY - WORLD WAR II
Calais – Harold E. "Shorty" Hartford, 96, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Calais Regional Hospital. Shorty was born in St. Stephen on February 15, 1915, one of sixteen children to Percy and Flora (McConvey) Hartford. He left school at an early age to help support his family by cutting wood with his father.

Shorty was a WWII Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He worked for Dicenzo's for several years and then for Georgia Pacific Corp, from where he retired. Shorty loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Sherman Bros. Post #3 American Legion and the Happy Gang.

In addition to his parents and siblings, Shorty was predeceased by his first wife, Marion (Seavey) Hartford; his second wife Ethel (Boyd) Hartford; and a son, Donald Hartford.

Surviving are his two sons William Hartford and his wife Karen of Medway, MA, and Wayne Hartford and his wife Linda of Jacksonville, FL; step-son Ronald Denyer and his wife Joan of Saco; daughter-in-law Frances Walton of St. Stephen; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
