Ernest John Lehner, 76, of Wadena, Minnesota, died on Saturday. September 4, 1991 at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.
Ernest was born to Gottlieb and Clara Lehner on December 1, 1914 in Sebeka, Minnesota, where he was raised and attended school. In 1932 Ernest moved with his family to the Nimrod area and continued to farm. On December 10, 1939 Ernest was united in marriage to Ophelia K. Blanchard. Ernest and Ophilia continued to farm in the Nimrod area until 1985 when he retired and moved to Wadena. Ernest was a member of the Orton town board and supervisor for several years. Ernest was also a member of the Nimrod Lutheran Church and St. john’s Lutheran Church in Wadena, and board member of Nimrod Lutheran Church. Ernest enjoyed playing cards, hunting, and fishing. As a family man, Ernest was a good and kind father and his family always came first.
Ernest is survived by his wife, Ophelia K. Lehner of Wadena; two sons, Ray and wife Brenda Lehner of Nimrod, Calvin Lehner of Nimrod and Calvin’s daughter Echo of Northfield; four sisters, Grace Poncelet of Conway Springs, Kansas, Claresse Widell of Sebeka, Linda Huttunen of Wadena, and Betty Vernon of Gresham, Oregon; one brother, Emray Lehner of New York Mills and three grandchildren. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held September 16 at Nimrod Lutheran Church with Reverend Terry Finnern officiating. Lolita Myers was the organist and the quartet was Frances and Dean Estabrooks, Sue Johnson and Avis Milbradt. Honorary pallbearers were Herb Zeller, Lester Perkins, Harold Siemsen, Delbert Huttunen, Mickey Daniels, Richard Carmen and Dean Estabrooks. Interment was at Green Hill Cemetery. All arrangements were handled by the Cardini-Behrens Funeral Homes of Sebeka and Menahga.
