Mildred Elizabeth Tegeler, 91, of Effingham died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Relais Bonne Eau Community Hospice Home, Edwardsville.

Mildred was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Effingham County, the daughter of William and Anna (Unkraut) Haarmann. She married Albert Bernard Tegeler of Green Creek on May 2, 1945, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham. He preceded her in death in 1995.

Mildred resided most of her life in Douglas Township within a half-mile of where she was born. In her later years, she spend many winters with her daughters in Phoenix. Since July 2008, she lived in the Edwardsville area. Mildred's hobby was embroidering quilts. Her last days were spent completing a baby quilt for the family's next arrival. She was devoted to her family, always had a smile on her face and never knew a stranger.

She began working as a volunteer for the St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Cross at the Crossroads. The land on which the Cross was built was part of the family farm for many years. She was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Church and was a member of the Altar Sodality and served as the school's PTA president. Mildred also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Mildred is survived by her children, Mary Ann Richy and Dorothy Tegeler, Joan Saylor, William, Susan Runde, Robert Tegeler; sister, Marie Harmer; grandchildren, Mark, Matthew and Michael Tegeler, Allison Castellari, Kimberley Carpenter, Melissa Brammer, Laura Venzor, Paul Geisler, Eric and Allan Saylor, Henry Tegeler, Kevin, Kristin and Scott Runde, and Miles and Mitchel Tegeler; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Patrick, Madalyn, Joseph, Connor, Luke, Noah and Aidan Tegeler, Cole Buehnekemper, Emmet Geisler and Wyatt Carpenter.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; son, Louis; and two brothers, Frederick and Wilbert Haarmann.

Funeral services were held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham.

Burial was in St. Anthony Cemetery, Effingham.
