John Edward Baumgardner, aged 62y 08m 10d, of 924 Washington Avenue, Greenville, Ohio, died at 1:25 a.m. Sunday, 30 Dec 2001, at his residence.

Born 20 Apr 1939, in Greenville, he was the son of Mrs. Geraldine Gunckel Baumgardner Barga (1909-2007) of Greenville, and Melvin Leondus Baumgardner (1908-1974). His father preceded him in death.

Mr. Baumgardner was an employee of Van Leer Container of Greenville and a former employee of Massey-Ferguson and Greenville Ford.

He was a member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge 143, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine of Dayton, Darke County Shrine Club, Darke County Jeepsters, Greenville Craft Club, and a 27-year member of the Greenville Elks Lodge. He was an avid woodworker.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Joyce Carroll Baumgardner of Greenville, whom he married 07 Aug 1959; son, John Allen Baumgardner and friend, Stephanie Riffel of Greenville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Tim Hodges, Lisa and Craig Francis, and Susie and Gary Francis, all of Greenville; grandchildren, Craig and wife Shellie Francis, Jeff Francis, Matt Gerace, Steve Gerace, Ryan Francis, Christopher Francis, Laura Francis, Rachel Francis, John "Austin" Baumgardner, Alyssa Baumgardner, Kyli Gunckle, Cody Gunckle; a brother, Ronald Baumgardner of Greenville; and four sisters, Virginia Mae Baker, Lucille "Boots" Breaden, both of Greenville, Mary Whittington of Ansonia, and L. Kay Smith of Greenville.

Services are planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, 03 Jan 2002, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Reverend Dr. Duane Smith officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens (now Greenville Township Memorial Gardens).

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 02 Jan 2002, at the funeral home. The Greenville Masonic Lodge will conduct a Masonic Memorial Service at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, followed by the Scottish Rite Ring Degree Service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals.
