Miss Ruth Frances Chandler, a well-known lifelong resident of Hartford City, died at 7:30 o'clock Wednesday [10 Jan 1940] evening at the Blackford County hospital following an illness with heart trouble and complications.
Miss Chandler had been in ill health since an attack of Influenza last February [1939] and intermittently during that time was confined to her home. Complications developing from the attack of flu were the causes of her aliment.
On December 29 [1939], Miss Chandler became bedfast at her home, 830 East Water Street and then last Sunday she was removed to the hospital when her condition became serious.
A brother, William E. Chandler of Oshkosh, Wis., summoned here for the critical illness of his sister, arrived at the hospital at 8 o'clock Wednesday night, a half hour after she had passed away.
Born in Hartford City at the present home in east Water Street, Miss Ruth Frances Chandler was the daughter of Alvin and Clara Ann (Rowe) Chandler. After graduating from the Hartford City High School and attending Muncie Business College, Miss Chandler was employed for a short time at the office of the Sneath Glass Factory. Then for three years she served as secretary ? office of the superintendent of city schools after which she became bookkeeper at the Ervin store here, a position she held for over thirty years. She had worked at the Ervin store until becoming bedfast on December 29, [1939].
Surviving are three sisters, Edith and Jennie, both at home, and Mrs. Marie Ketterman of Shideler, and two brothers, Jay Chandler of this city and William E. Chandler of Oshkosh. Eloise and Mary Jean Ketterman of Shideler, and Lois and Roger Chandler of Oshkosh, are nieces and nephews.
Miss Chandler was a member of Grace M. E. Church, the Eastern Star, the Muncie chapter of White Shrine, and the W. R. C.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Burk & Fennig chapel Saturday [13 Jan 1940] morning at 10: 30 o'clock with the Rev. J. W. ? of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be made in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery here.
The body will be taken from the mortuary to the home at 4 o'clock, Thursday [11 Jan 1940] afternoon where friends may call.
