Bernard was born 12 Jan 1864 at New Vienna, IA. He was baptized 14 Jan 1864, Fr. James Orth officiated, witnessed by Bernadine Kaupel and Catherine Wegmann.
In late 1890, Bernard visited his sister, Anna Boyer Staebler in Haverhill, Iowa, and met her sister-in-law, Anna Staebler. About 6 months later, Bernard married Anna Staebler at Dyersville, IA, 16 Jun 1891 by the Reverend G. H. Luehrsmann in the presence of August Koopmann and Mary Ahlers. Anna Staebler was born in Luxemburg, IA, 19 Oct 1870.
Bernard and Anna lived in Dyersville, IA area for about one to two years following their marriage. In about 1893, Bernard or "Barney", as he was often called, moved to Haverhill, IA possibly taking his father with him. Barney and Anna lived in the Haverhill, IA area for a very short period.
In March 1895 Barney and Anna moved the family to Williams, IA. Barney maintained a lease on a farm north of Williams through 1903.
In March 1903, Barney & Anna moved to a purchased farm north of Canby, MN. At that time, the family included 6 children. On 1 October 1906, Barney and Anna sold the farm land, but remained in the Canby, MN area until 1912. In early 1912 Barney moved his family with 10 children to a purchased farm 5 miles south of Wadena, MN.
In 1919 Barney and family moved to a farm, about two and one half miles south of Wadena. Barney and Anna lived on this farm until they retired from farm life in 1935 when they moved to Verndale, MN where they lived until September 1943.
Barney and Anna celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Monday, 16 Jun 1941.
After Anna died in 1943, Barney gave up housekeeping to live with his children, first John Boyer in rural Wadena, then Mrs. William Schmitz near Verndale. He passed away at Wesley Hospital, Monday, 18 Mar 1946. Cause of death was heart trouble and he had suffered a slight stroke the week previous. Funeral services were held on 23 Mar 1946 at St Ann's Catholic Church, Wadena, MN. Monsignor A. Plachta officiated the last rites.
Barney and Anna are buried in the Boyer family lot at Calvary Cemetery, Wadena. Barney & Anna were preceded in death by one daughter, Caroline, and were survived by ten children.
