Isaac was the youngest and last surviving child of Isaac and Alice (Trounce) Broad. His elder siblings were Mary, Josiah Henry, Sally, Rebecca, Frances, and Elizabeth Broad; his younger siblings were Samuel and a second Rebecca Broad.

Isaac worked as a carpenter or joiner for the local mines for most of his life. He was essentially retired by his seventieth year.

On January 7, 1832, Isaac married Joanna (also known as Joan or Jane) Marks in St Hilary. The couple had eleven children before Joanna's death in 1867. Isaac later assisted in raising at least one grandchild, Emily Jane Broad.

Isaac began his life as a follower of the Church of England, but appears to have converted to Methodism in the 1850s, as three of his children received non-conformist baptisms.

In addition to his wife, parents, and siblings, Isaac was preceded in death by an infant son named for him. He was buried in the Towednack Churchyard. Surviving were sons Isaac, Richard, and Samuel Henry Broad, as well as daughters Elizabeth Gilbert, Phillis Berryman, Johanna Glasson, Fanny Gilbert, and Jane, Emily, and Eliza Broad.
